Atom Pin-Tail Sc Longboard (49-Inch) Review

The trucks, wheels, and bearings all seem pretty good on this board. The big downside is the deck. As a previous reviewer wrote, my deck also had some cracks in the bottom of if through the paint - not a big deal though. The deck has absolutely no flex in it compared to other long boards - again, not much of a big deal because between its little flex and the 78a soft wheels you don't get a lot of vibrations, and the board is actually pretty smooth.

THE BIG PROBLEM IS THE WHEEL CUTOUTS. It seems the manufacture designed the deck so that the trucks are just not mounted in the right spot for the cutouts to be effective. When cornering on this board I regularly had the wheel bite into the deck on the edge of the cutout, and immediately stop the board and throw me off it. Very dangerous IMHO. If the trucks has been mounted in a different spot, the wheels would travel into the cutouts and the board would be safe.

I'm going to see if I can maybe get some spacers that change the angle of my trucks (and as a result where they turn ) or maybe even take a saw to the deck because this has to be fixed to be safe.

Giving it 3 stars because the board rides fast and smooth and as long as you are not trying to corner hard it is great. taking off two stars because you cannot carve on the board safely without bad wheel bite throwing you off.

I've added pictures of the board next to a regular skateboard to show you the size of the board, as well as pictures of the board and how the wheels don't work with the cutouts.

Edit: I just spoke to Atom about this problem. It sounds like they had this issue with their first batch of this model (So it sounds like the one I got from amazon is an older one which also explains the light cracking in the deck). They said as far as they know it has been resolved on future production runs. They are going to send me some spacers and work with me to correct it, as well as have me send them the serial number off of the board to make sure that the problem has not come up again in production. It was a pleasure to work with a company that stands behind their product and will work with you to resolve any issues. While the board itself may have some issues (that may have been addressed in production already)and gets 3 stars, I want to give Atom 5 stars for their excellent service and willingness to address the issue.
