DynamiteTazer 1/10 4-Pole 3300Kv ESC/Motor Combo Review
Bought this to up grade my 1st gen ECX Torment in which I primarily use to bash. It's my first brushless set up and after some reading I thought this would be a good entry level combo for the money ($98) and I didn't have to buy a extra parts to set it up (or so i thought). It is also has a water proof ESC, which kinda mattered to me being in the PNW. (I also looked at the $108 Castle combo on here but since it was not the water proof SV3 and slightly more I passed.)Trying to set this up in my torment I ran into the couple fallowing issues;
1st-. The programming directions were crap. While programming the red light does not do the flashing to let you know where your at in the set up as stated in the directions. It's always the green. I found a better/ more accurate guide on Roger's hobby center dot com.
2nd- The pig tail to the receiver is not nearly long enough (for the Torment), just to run the truck briefly I moved the ESC mount over so it was only secured by the forward two of the 4 screws and even then I had to leave the receiver/servo cover off as the pig tail had no excess give. If there is a extension available you'll need it if this combo is to be used in a Torment if you keep every thing in the factory locations as I did. To solve this on the cheap I'm just going to solder/heat shrink in a extension section from the old ESC.
When I ran it, it was on wet pavement and with factory gearing and a 7 cell 8.4V nickel batt, the truck had no problems sliding side ways through any part of the throttle range when i wanted it two as well as some times when i didn't. I also noticed a considerable increase in speed over the original 20T motor. Punch was set at the highest level; 4. This mod was also done after metal gears were installed and axles upgraded and not just thrown on factory drive train hoping for the best.
Even though I have to extend the pig tail and got pretty frustrated with the mis-guided guide, I'm happy with my decision to go brushless.
