Castle Creations 010-0066-06 Mamba Max Pro ESC with 4600KV 4-Pole Motor Review

This combo cost almost double the price of the cheapo RC truck that I paired it with, a Exceed RC Infinitive (Brushed version $97). It went into a brand new infinitive and this this is working out good so far.

The 1406-4600 is not recommended for a 4x4 MT, but temps are doing ok with the stock 17T-P/64T-S, 4.5" tires and 2.8 final drive. Ran through four 5000mah/9.6v/NiMh so far and still kicking. It does heat up a little but when it does, the battery is pretty much done anyway. The 1406 motor is a 540 can at 36mm wide x 1.9" so it will fit pretty much fit every 1/10 RC.

The Mamba Max Pro ESC is the heart of it all, this thing is paired and sold with all 1406, 1410 and 1415 motors. Highly programmable; brake, punch, timing, cutoff etc, etc. You can run this thing with brushless or brushed motors too. When attached to the Castle LInk module (free when ordered with supplied codes from box) or Field Link, there are even more programmable options like BEC or Cheat Mode. So in other words, it can be programmed manually with the transmitter, FieldLink or a computer with Castle link. Firmware can also be updated.

The fan is factory installed to the ESC and has a dedicated plug on the ESC for power, No need to use a receiver channel. I did hear the fan come on but it was just for a few seconds. The battery leads come pre-tinned with solder and will need to be connected to your choice of connector to mach your batteries. The wires are quite long on the motor and ESC, Castle does state that it is safe to shorten the wires. The ESC has a long receiver wire.

Included in the box there were 4 spare female 4mm bullets, 2 motor mount screws some stickers, a quick start guide, drivers ed guide (user manual) and a gearing chart.

We clocked it today using a GPS and although not so spectacular on the numbers it did 42 MPH on a strait away with the specs listed above (this is a monster truck).

We have a Traxxas Velineon Brushless Power System installed on a identical truck (Exceed Infinitive)same gearing and all, and this MMP/4600 puts it to shame and they cost the same.
